The Southwestern Colorado Data Center, Inc. was created as a 501 (c)(3) organization in 1995. Over time the organization was referred to by a shorter name, the SouthWest Data Center. In 2004 the Articles of Incorporation were officially changed to reflect this name change.

Over the past several years the organization has made some changes to it's bylaws in order to accommodate a smaller, and more practical, board of directors. This smaller board of directors undertook a strategic planning process to help identify a direction.
