Map Services running on the SouthWest Data Center web server can be used as data sources in ArcMap thick clients.
To use a map service:
1.) Open ArcCatalog
2.) Expand GIS Servers 3.) Double-click Add ArcIMS Server
4.)
Add http://www.southwestdata.org to the URL of Server box.
5.)
Choose which services you want to connect to on the server.
6.) In ArcMap add the data source to your Layers.
You can toggle the visibility of the map service layers, but you can not change the symbology.
