Online Resources for Additional Information

Oil and Gas lease information can be accessed by expanding Mineral Ownership under PUBLIC LANDS in the Legend / Layer table of contents. The category can be expanded by right-clicking on the small box with the + . Clicking on the text will make a layer active. See Legend \ Layers for more information.

Federal Subsurface - Lands where the minerals are in federal ownership. Includes lands where the mineral estate has been severed from the surface estate and the minerals are retained by the federal government.

Quarterly Sales - Oral auctions of oil and gas leases on public lands (federal subsurface) are conducted quarterly by the Colorado BLM State Office when parcels are available. Competitive lease sale dates in 2007 are: May 10, August 9 and November 8.

Lease Status -
Pending - Lease not issued pending additional information or requirements
Authorized - Lease issued

Lease Stipulations - All oil and gas leases include Standard Stipulations, some leases are subject to Special Stipulations as well.
Standard Stipulations - Includes lease terms and conditions such as the right to explore and drill for, extract, remove and dispose of oil and gas deposits that may be found on leased lands.
Special Stipulations - In areas where development of oil and gas resources would conflict with the protection or management of other resources or public land uses, mitigation measures are identified and may appear on leases as either stipulations to uses or as restrictions on surface occupancy.
