San Miguel County
Water Quality Project

Over the last several years Southwest Data Center, Inc. has worked with INSTAAR - University of Colorado Boulder, San Miguel County, the Colorado Department of Health and Environment and the EPA - Region VIII on the San Miguel Water Quality Project.  Through this project we have created three sets of GIS maps that are describe in detail below.

Protection of Headwater Catchments from Future Degradation:
San Miguel River Basin, Colorado

INSTAAR Report:

INSTAAR - Univeristy of Colorado Boulder has prepared a  report describing the process and findings of this study.

Planning and Zoning Codes:

For a copy of the planning and zoning changes, contact the San Miguel County Planning Department

Landscape Types Maps:

INSTAAR did a detailed field analysis of 17 high alpine watershed basins in eastern San Miguel County.  In addition to collecting and analysing water samples, they mapped each of the landscape types in the regions.  SWDC digitized this data and produced these maps.

Ecological Sensitivities Maps:

Using this information and guidelines set by INSTAAR, San Miguel County and the EPA, SWDC produced a set of maps that delineate certain ecological sensitivities.

These include:

Areas Sensitive to Eutrophicaion
Areas Sensitive to Acidification
Wetland Areas
Avalanche Areas
Trace Metals

Gis Coverages:

To access these coverages or the metadata associated with them, search the SWDC Clearinghouse or use the Make A Map! to look at the coverages before downloading them.

Metadata:

Metadata for Landscape Types
Metadata for Eutrophication
Metadata for Acidification

Source Water Protection Areas: San Miguel County, Colorado

Source Water Protection Area Maps:

Seven communities are working with the EPA, Colorado Deptarment of Health and San Miguel County to delineate their drinking water sources.

Gis Coverages:

To access these coverages or the metadata associated with them, search the SWDC Clearinghouse or use the Make A Map! to look at the coverages before downloading them.
