Population
The resident population of the two counties totals about 7,000 people. Tourists and visitors throughout the year can easily double this population at different periods during the year. Ouray County has two incorporated areas: the City of Ouray with a population of 750 people and the Town of Ridgway with 500 people. The rest of the population of Ouray County lives in the unincorporated area of the county. San Miguel county has several incorporated areas. Within the study area there are 3 incorporated areas: the Town of Telluride with 1,900 people, the Town of Mountain Village with 500 people. There are several smaller towns and subdivisions including Sawpit, Placerville, Lawson Hill, Hillside and the Fall Creek area.
