Using the Map Viewers - Step by Step 1.) Set your browser pop-up blocker(s) to allow pop-ups from http://www.southwestdata.org. - show me more 2.) Click on the thumbnail image for the county of interest. 3.) If you understand and accept the conditions of use, continue by clicking the appropriate link. 4.) With the viewer now open, verify the zoom-in tool is active. - show me more 5.) Using your mouse, move to a point on the map that is above and to the left of the area of interest. While depressing the left button, drag your mouse to a point below and to the right of the area of interest. After the red rectangle forms, release the left button. 6.) The Legend / Layer can be found to the right of the map image. The gray bar beneath "Parcels" indicates that it is currently the active layer. Point to the box next to "Parcel" and click to make the layer visible also. 7.) Use the pan and zoom tools to navigate to the area of interest. Hint - Zooming out to the extent of the view with detailed layers such as Parcels visible will increase the refresh time. For best results, keep the detail simple until you have defined your area of interest. 8.) With Parcels both active (gray) and visible (checked box) select the Identify tool by clicking on the black dot with the white "i" in the map toolbar (on the upper left side). Now select a parcel in the map and click - a window will pop-up with information. If the window does not appear, look for it behind the map or other things open on your desktop. 9.) Once you have located your area of interest find "Mineral Ownership" under "PUBLIC LANDS" in the Legend / Layers. Click on the box with a plus sign next to "Mineral Ownership" to expand the options. Notice that the box now has a minus sign in it. - show me more 10.) Click the visibility box next to "Mineral Ownership" and all the subcategories will become visible at once. If nothing happens, make sure that the visibility box for "PUBLIC LANDS" is also checked. Sometimes the image needs to be manually refreshed by pressing the "Refresh Map" button. 11.) Click on the box with a plus sign next to "Oil and Gas " to expand the options. Now click on the box with a plus sign next to "Lease Stipulations" to make the legend symbols visible. - show me more 12.) Using the mouse, click on the text "Lease Stipulations" to make this layer active (the gray bar highlight should move to this layer). With the Identify tool still selected click on an area of interest with the mouse. Use the hyperlink in the infromation window to access more information.
